PACE Program

Throughout Latin America, we assist emergency care providers nationally and internationally, developing their skills and advocating for system improvements.  For much of this, we work through the International Federation of Emergency Medicine

In Mexico, we provide a range of certification courses and training for the Health Ministry, the Red Cross and others in the cardinal areas of emergency care:  CPR, Advanced Cardiac, Pediatric, Trauma, Obstetrical and Disaster care, as well as some skills courses such as Advanced Airway and Ventilation and Emergency Ultrasound.

Our highest impact program is the Advanced Life Support for Obstetrics Program, where we have trained over 3,500 physicians. We also have parallel training programs for nurses and paramedics, in addition to starting a traditional midwifery program.

The purpose of the Advanced Life Support for Obstetrics Program is to train and certify competent health care providers to specifically remedy obstetrical emergencies, to coordinate care and to stabilize and efficiently transfer the patient to a higher level of care, when appropriate.

With 15 courses in the state of Chiapas and other efforts, the maternal mortality rate has dropped 31%. This is the state which had the highest mortality rate in the country, but with intervention, the state is now 9th in maternal mortality rate – a significant improvement.
